I’ve been reading Ben Forta’s blog.
Some interesting comments from this article, which I think is somewhat true:
- CF is discredited because it’s not open source (and expensive)
- ColdFusion is sort of caught in the middle between three camps: The OSS guys you mentioned, the Microsoft .NET crowd which is also “free-as-in-beer” if you’re on Windows, and the full-bore Java/J2EE “Enterprise” crowd. Any way you look at it, it’s an awkward place to be. I’m actually wondering whether it might be cost effective to go all the way with Java, there are few free Java webservers around.
